Hindsight Markets Beta

A TradingSim alternative for small-cap day traders

Hindsight Markets is a TradingSim alternative built for small-cap momentum day traders. It is a whole trading platform running on a real past day, not a chart replay: the entire US market plays again from the 4:00 a.m. pre-market, and you trade it with your own scanners, Level 2, hotkeys and journal, with simulated money.

Two ways to practise on past sessions

Both products replay real market sessions in a web browser, with charts, scanners, Level 2 and time and sales running on one clock. TradingSim describes itself as a trading simulator that replays full market sessions across several symbols, with years of history and futures and crypto beside stocks.

Hindsight Markets goes narrower and deeper. It covers US stocks only, and treats a replay as a whole trading day on a whole platform: every stock, ETF and warrant listed on a US exchange, the scanners and the news as they stood at each moment, the order book your orders fill against, and the rules that applied on that date.

What you get Hindsight Markets TradingSim

Scanners Build your own scan. It reruns every minute and only knows what was known at that moment. Preview it against a past day at any time, pre-market included. A market scanner with pre-market volume, float and market cap, gap and short interest filters, on every historical day.
Desk Watchlists, price and new-high alerts, windows linked by colour, and any window popped onto another monitor. Watchlists and drag-and-drop layouts you can save.
Hotkeys Fully custom: each binding has its own size, order type, price offset and route. Customisable hotkeys.
Level 2 and the tape The full book exchange by exchange, and time and sales, on every account. Level 2 by venue on the Premium plan. Time and sales on both plans.
Halts and short rules Halts and LULD bands enforced under that date’s rules, the short sale restriction, borrow status and locates. Limit up-limit down levels shown on Level 2.
Float Float as it was known that day, in the scanner and the quote. Float in the scanner.
Charts Tick and one-second charts up to monthly, on every account. Tick and second charts on the Premium plan.

What a whole platform on a past day changes

You have to find the stock first. Your scan reruns across the whole market every minute and only knows what the market knew then, so a runner shows up when it really did, among the names that went nowhere.

Nothing from later leaks in. A headline appears when it crossed, a filing from later in the day will not open, and float and short interest are what was known that morning.

Your size meets the real book. A marketable order fills against the displayed size, best price first, and a limit order waits behind the orders that were already there at the exchange you route to. On a thin small cap, that is the difference between the fill you planned and the one you get.

The day’s rules apply. LULD bands and halts work the way they did on that date, a stock under the short sale restriction only lets a short fill above the bid, and a hard-to-borrow name needs a locate first.

The scan builder: market cap under 2B, float under 20M, change from close over 5%, with the preview of that scan at 10:40 ET on 2026-09-16 beside it.

Where TradingSim is the better fit

The honest limits

Every fill here is simulated. Off-exchange and hidden liquidity never fill you, and your own order does not move the market after it fills, so a result is a practice result against that day’s book, not what the same decision would do with real money. The full list of what the model does and does not capture is on the disclaimer page. Read more about how Level 2 and a LULD halt work in the glossary.

Common questions

What is a good TradingSim alternative for small caps?
If you trade small-cap momentum stocks and want the whole market on a past day, Hindsight Markets replays every US-listed stock at once, with point-in-time scanners, news and filings, Level 2 by exchange and fills from that day’s book. If you need years of history or futures, TradingSim fits that better.
Is TradingSim free?
TradingSim’s own site lists paid Pro and Premium plans, each with a 7-day free trial, as of October 2026. Check its site for the current terms.
How far back can I replay in Hindsight Markets?
Every trading day from August 2026 forward, and each new trading day is added overnight. Chart history, filings and fundamentals reach back further than the days you can open.
Can I trade more than one stock in the same replay?
Yes. A replay is the whole market on one day. Switch symbols from a scanner, a watchlist or the search box as often as you like, and hold several positions on one account with one P&L.
Do my orders fill against the real order book?
They fill against that day’s recorded book. A marketable order takes the displayed size, best price first, and a limit order joins the back of the queue at the exchange you route to. Hidden and off-exchange liquidity are not modeled.
