The day before, and a quiet start
The official close on October 12 was $2.61. That day PFAI traded between $2.60 and $3.00 on 24,806 shares.
The first trade on the 13th came at 4:02 a.m., at $2.58, below that close. For the next four hours it drifted between $2.35 and $2.80. The low of the day, $2.35, printed at 5:28 a.m. Until 8:13 no minute traded more than 350 shares.
Pre-market: $2.89 to $8.77 in three minutes
At 8:15 a.m. Accesswire ran: “Pinnacle Food Group Limited Completes First Bench-Scale Fermentation of Recombinant Human Lactoferrin (rhLF) Using Methanol-Free Pichia Fermentation”. Volume that minute was 3,343 shares, the most of the morning so far.
The first sharp move came at 8:17, to $3.65. By 8:18 it was back down to $2.63. Then it took off. In the 8:20 minute it went from $2.89 to $5.94 on 168,461 shares. It hit $7.25 at 8:21 and $8.77 at 8:23.
The high so far, $8.79, came at 8:25 a.m., before the open. That was up 237% from the $2.61 close. The same minute traded as low as $6.86, so it swung almost $2 in 60 seconds.
It did not hold. It fell to $6.03 at 8:30 and $5.81 at 8:34. By 8:36 a.m., more shares had traded than exist in the whole float (3.57 million). By the bell, 8.36 million had traded, more than twice the float.
It came back once more. At 8:44 a.m. a buyer swept 12,749 shares from $7.70 to $7.96 across 26 price levels. A minute later, another 13,085 shares went from $8.11 to $8.20. At 8:45 a.m. it pushed to $8.28, a lower high under $8.79. After that it slid. It traded as low as $6.37 at 9:00 and closed the 9:28 minute at $5.95.
The open and the slide to $3.97
It opened at $5.96, up 128% from the previous close and 32% below the pre-market high. At 9:30:00, 32,450 shares printed at exactly $5.96 on Nasdaq. The first minute's high was $6.01, and that was the best price of the regular session.
Then it sold off. It was $5.08 by 9:36, and the 9:36 candle dropped to $4.52. At 9:45 a seller swept 14,141 shares from $4.51 down to $4.29 across 23 levels. The low since the open was $3.97 at 9:48, 33% under the open.
It bounced back to $5.00 at 10:00, then sank into a slow range. From 10:20 to 10:50 it stayed between $4.05 and $4.70, and volume was often just a few thousand shares a minute.
Stop It's 10:53. PFAI is at $4.75. It traded at $4.29 at 10:50 and has climbed for three minutes on bigger volume. Would you buy here?

The 10:53 candle ran to $5.42 and closed at $5.10 on 178,058 shares. Buyers had swept 32,664 shares from $4.87 to $5.13 across 27 levels at 10:53:16. It slipped back under $5 the next minute, then pushed up to $5.69 at 11:06.
Ask walls after 11:00
Stop It's 11:07. PFAI is at $5.50, up from $4.76 at 10:59. A large ask wall has just appeared at $5.60. Would you buy here?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 11:07 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 11:04 a.m. ET.
The $5.60 wall peaked at 52,060 shares at 11:09:35, about 1.5% of the float. It was pulled at 11:09:42. The 11:09 candle closed at $4.93, and the 11:11 minute traded as low as $4.60.
At that same second, 11:09:42, a new wall showed up lower, at $5.35. It peaked at 52,128 shares at 11:25:11 and was pulled at 11:26:18. At that same second a third wall appeared at $5.09. It peaked at 60,793 shares at 11:33:43, about 1.7% of the float.
At 11:43:29 the $5.09 wall was pulled. Only 1,695 shares traded in that whole minute, and the price was around $4.50. So the size did not trade out. It left the book. Three walls in under 37 minutes, each lower than the last, and none of them was eaten.
The afternoon and the close
A fourth ask wall appeared at $5.67 at 11:47:18. It peaked at 51,216 shares at 12:00:42.
Stop It's 12:40. PFAI is at $5.07. It was $4.52 at 12:36. A large ask wall sits at $5.67. Would you buy here?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 12:40 p.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 12:37 p.m. ET.
The run topped at $5.59 at 12:43, eight cents under the wall. The $5.67 wall stayed on the book until 1:27:34 p.m., then it was pulled. Two buy sweeps hit during the run: 19,419 shares from $5.47 to $5.53 at 12:41:27, and 13,352 shares from $5.38 to $5.51 at 12:43:00. By 12:46 it had dipped to $4.88.
After that it mostly chopped between $4.20 and $5.16. Two more walls came and went. One was $5.94, seen from 2:39:04 p.m. to 2:40:20 p.m. The other was $5.57, seen from 2:41:34 p.m. until 3:55:02 p.m.
It closed at $4.54, 48% under the $8.79 high. After hours it spiked to $5.34 at 4:16 p.m. on 33,180 shares that minute, then fell back, trading between $4.36 and $4.97 from 4:18 p.m. on.
8.36 million shares traded pre-market and 7.10 million in the regular session. That is 15.47 million by the close: the float changed hands more than four times, at about 18 times its normal volume.
What to take from it
- The high came before the open. $8.79 printed at 8:25 a.m. The stock opened at $5.96, 32% lower, and closed at $4.54.
- A wall on the screen can vanish. Here three ask walls of 52,000 to 61,000 shares were each pulled, not eaten. The size left without trading.
- Chasing a thin book costs more than the screen says. At 8:25:43 the screen showed $8.58 with 300 shares offered, and 5,000 shares averaged $8.76.
