The day before
NXTS closed on October 6 at $1.41. It was a very quiet day: a range of $1.38 to $1.44 and only 914 shares traded. Its normal volume is about 19,000 shares a day. That is a thin stock.
Pre-market: the float traded by 7:40 a.m.
The first trade on the 7th came at 4:33 a.m., 66 shares at $1.32, below the $1.41 close. Then nothing much. At 7:14 a.m. 15 shares traded at $1.34.
At 7:32 a.m. GlobeNewsWire ran: “Nexentis: MitoCareX Bio Deploys its Computational Drug Discovery Infrastructure on Google Cloud”. The 7:32 minute opened at $1.62, hit $1.79, and traded 19,682 shares. That was more volume in one minute than the whole previous day.
For the next eight minutes it swung between about $1.50 and $1.88 on heavy volume. During the 7:40 minute, more shares had traded than exist in the whole float (1.40 million).
At 7:40:57 a big offer started stacking at $1.74, just above the price.
Stop It's 7:41. NXTS is at $1.72. A big ask is stacking at $1.74, just above the price, and the float has already traded over. Would you buy here?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 7:41 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 7:38 a.m. ET.
The offer peaked at 54,733 shares at 7:41:32, 3.9% of the float. At 7:42:08 it was pulled. It was not eaten: 13,260 shares traded at $1.74 in the second at 7:42:07, far less than the wall. The 7:42 minute went on to $1.81.
The top at $2.16
At 7:45 it broke away. That minute ran from $1.83 to $2.06 on 544,457 shares. At 7:47 it hit $2.16, the high so far, before the bell, up 53% from the previous close. A 34,483-share buy swept $1.98 to $2.02 across five price levels at 7:47:35.
The top didn't hold. At 7:49 it dropped to $1.76. A 43,954-share sell swept $1.95 to $1.89 across seven levels at 7:49:39.
The fade to $1.28
From there it slid. It touched $1.57 at 7:51 and $1.44 at 7:52. A 53,079-share sell swept $1.45 to $1.39 at 7:54:48. At 7:55 it hit $1.28, down 41% from $2.16. A 32,700-share sell took $1.33 to $1.28 at 7:55:11.
It tried once more. At 7:56 it pushed to $1.46, a lower high far under the $2.16 top. By 8:01 it was back at $1.28 and a 47,463-share sell had swept $1.34 to $1.30. About 8.69 million shares traded in the whole pre-market session.
The bid wall at $1.15
At 8:04 the price was $1.28 and still falling. That was when a big bid started stacking at exactly $1.15, below the price.
Stop It's 8:08. NXTS is at $1.20, well off its $2.16 high. A big bid has been stacking at $1.15 since 8:04. Would you buy here, with that bid under you?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 8:08 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 8:05 a.m. ET.
The bid peaked at 34,669 shares at 8:08:30, 2.5% of the float. At 8:10:35, 23,928 shares traded at exactly $1.15 within a second and the wall was gone. It wasn't pulled. Sellers ran through it. A 44,470-share sell swept $1.17 to $1.14, and the 8:10 minute closed at $1.08.
It bounced to $1.19 at 8:13, then drifted between about $1.05 and $1.17 until the open.
The open and the rest of the day
It opened at $1.13, down 20% from the previous close. At 9:43 it hit $0.94, the low of the day, then spent the rest of the morning between about $0.95 and $1.19.
Another wall showed up in that stretch. From 10:35 a bid of about 200,000 shares (14.5% of the float) sat at $0.95. It was pulled at 10:44:50 and replaced at $0.97, pulled at 11:06:47 and replaced at $0.99, and pulled at 11:39:54. The price stayed above all three levels. At 11:29 it dropped from $1.13 to $1.02 on 25,523 shares, then settled near $1.06.
The afternoon was thin. It traded mostly between $1.05 and $1.15 and was at $1.06 by 3:59 p.m.
Of the day's 9.56 million shares, 8.69 million traded before the bell. The regular session, 9:30 to 4:00, had 815,748. After hours added 56,751. The float changed hands about 7 times, at 493 times normal volume. No halts.
What to take from it
- The pre-market spike and the afternoon were two different stocks. 8.69 million shares traded before the bell and 815,748 in the regular session.
- After the top, the next push stopped lower. $2.16 at 7:47 a.m., then $1.46 at 7:56 a.m.
- A wall can be pulled or broken. The $1.74 ask was pulled. The $1.15 bid was run through in under a second. Neither was a promise.
