The day before
On October 6, NXAT opened at $0.89 and reached $1.42. It closed at $0.75, below where it started, on 6.26 million shares.
The news was out that morning. At 7:30 a.m. on the 6th, GlobeNewsWire carried the headline Nexus Advanced Technologies Signs Confidential Exclusivity for Proposed $500 Million Reverse Merger. There was no new headline on the 7th.
Pre-market: thin and flat
The first trade on the 7th was at $0.70 at 4:01 a.m., below the $0.75 close. Most of the pre-market stayed in the high 60s and low 70s in cents. Just 25,907 shares traded before the bell.
The pre-market high was $0.84 at 9:14 a.m., on a one-minute bar of just 23 shares. Two minutes later it was back at $0.70.
The open and the slow climb
It opened at $0.70, down 6% from the previous close. For the first 40 minutes or so it did very little. It sat at $0.70, then at $0.74 from 9:48 a.m. on.
Volume started to build at 10:09 a.m., with 13,002 shares in one minute as it moved to $0.75. By 10:19 a.m. it was at $0.81.
At 10:36 a.m. it hit $0.92, on 72,812 shares, the heaviest minute so far. Two minutes later it was at $0.74. A 15,674-share sell order went through 12 price levels at 10:38:14 on the way down. It then chopped between about $0.77 and $0.86 for the next quarter hour. By 10:52 a.m. it was pushing up again, from $0.84 to $0.87.
Stop It's 10:54. NXAT is at $0.88 after touching $0.90 the minute before. The last half hour has been up and down, and volume is picking up. Would you buy here?

The halt and the bid at $1.10
The 10:54 minute went to $1.02 on 157,638 shares. At 10:54:56 it was halted (a volatility pause), with the last trade at $1.02.
This part a chart doesn't show. While the stock was halted, someone put in a large bid at exactly $1.10. It first showed at 10:57:25 and grew to 46,609 shares at 10:59:44, about 2% of the float, across all exchanges.
It reopened at 10:59:56 at $1.15, the high so far. That is 13% above where it stopped. The opening print was 122,724 shares.
Two seconds later the bid at $1.10 broke. At 10:59:58 the first trade printed at $1.10. In under a second, 36,235 shares traded at exactly $1.10 and the wall was gone. It wasn't pulled. Sellers hit it. Two sell orders, 18,775 and 33,376 shares, went through the book down to $1.06. The 10:59 minute closed at $1.06.
At 11:00:17 it was halted again. The last trade was $1.00. In the seconds around that second halt, an ask wall of 152,634 shares showed at $1.00 (7% of the float). It was pulled at 11:01:33.
It reopened at 11:05:17 at $0.86, 14% below where it stopped. The opening print was 69,650 shares. The low of that minute was $0.79, down 31% from $1.15.
Stop It's 11:06. NXAT is at $0.906. It reopened from its second halt at $0.86 and made a low of $0.79 in that first minute. Would you buy this bounce?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 11:06 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 11:03 a.m. ET.
It did bounce. At 11:07 it pushed to $0.97, a lower high under the $1.15 top. By 11:08 it was back at $0.81, and it did not trade above $0.94 again.
The rest of the day
By the end of the 11:19 minute, more shares had traded than exist in the whole float (2.16 million). Soon after, the chop turned into a drop. The 11:23 minute fell to $0.79 on 131,177 shares, and 11:27 reached $0.67.
From 11:28:43, an ask wall of up to 43,800 shares sat at $0.75. The stock stayed under it. The wall was pulled at 12:39:13.
It kept fading: $0.65 at 11:43 a.m. and $0.637 at 11:45 a.m. The afternoon was quiet, often a few hundred shares a minute or fewer. The low of the day after the open was $0.63 at 2:34 p.m. The last regular-session bar, at 3:59 p.m., closed at $0.67. The 4:00 bar was 10,839 shares at $0.69.
After hours it traded between $0.63 and $0.68 on 64,037 shares.
By the close, 3.55 million shares had traded: the float changed hands about 1.6 times, at about 10 times its normal volume. Most of that came between 10:54 and 11:30.
What to take from it
- A halt can reopen lower than it stopped. The second halt stopped at $1.00 and reopened at $0.86.
- A big bid is not a floor. The 46,609-share bid at $1.10 was gone in under a second once sellers hit it.
- The first seconds after a reopen are the thinnest. A 5,000-share buy at 10:59:56 averaged $394 over the screen. One second later it cost nothing extra.
- After the top, the next push stopped lower. $1.15 at 10:59 a.m., then $0.97 at 11:07 a.m. The stock closed about 41% below the high.
