The day, step by step

Pre-market: a headline, then a spike to $0.83

AGMH closed the previous session at $0.70. The first trades on October 5 came at 6:39 a.m., around $0.69, and then almost nothing traded for an hour.

At 7:50 a.m. GlobeNewsWire ran: “AGM Group Holdings Inc. Announces Closing of US$11.0 million Private Placement.” The first trade that minute was $0.75, up from $0.69 earlier, and reached $0.78 at 7:51. By 7:53 it was back near $0.70. At 8:00 the company filed a 6-K (a foreign company's current report).

The bigger spike came later. From $0.70 at 8:15 it ran to the pre-market high, $0.83 at 8:21 a.m., on 52,750 shares in that one minute. It was back at $0.70 by 8:33, when an insider filed a Form 3 (a new insider's holdings). It then drifted up toward $0.80 by 9:29. 275,067 shares traded before the bell.

A slow open

It opened at $0.79, up 13% from the previous close, and dropped to $0.76 in the first minute. For the next 40 minutes it stayed between about $0.76 and $0.80 on thin volume.

Things changed at 10:10. That minute traded 39,244 shares, and the stock climbed in steps. It reached $0.95 at 10:21 a.m., when 209,767 shares traded in a single minute. Volume stayed heavy from there.

At 10:31 it traded through $1.00 for the first time.

The first halt, and the reopen

The first volatility halt (a limit-up/limit-down pause) came at 10:33. Look at what a Level 2 screen showed before it reopened: a large bid sat at $1.09, the price where the stock stopped. It peaked at 189,253 shares, about 5% of the float, at 10:33:00, as the halt began.

Stop It's 10:38. AGMH has been halted since 10:33 and is about to reopen. The last trade was $1.09, and a large bid sits at $1.09. Would you buy the reopen?

Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 10:38 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 10:35 a.m. ET.

It reopened at 10:38:00 with a single print of 177,580 shares at $1.09. The bid at $1.09 was crossed one second later. The minute's high was $1.16. By 10:39 more shares had traded than exist in the whole float (3.60 million).

It kept going. It hit $1.27 at 10:40, up from $0.88 ten minutes earlier. Then it reversed. A 37,398-share sell order went through 12 price levels at 10:42:03, from $1.01 to $0.99, and at 10:42:22 it was halted a second time.

It reopened at 10:47:22 with a 119,752-share print at $1.11. Within the first minute it was above $1.20.

Stop It's 10:48. AGMH reopened from its second halt a minute ago and is at $1.22. It was at $0.99 six minutes ago. Would you chase it here?

The stock held above $0.94 for the next 20 minutes. At 11:30:38 the bid was pulled. By 11:32 the low was $0.88, under the old bid.

The fade went on. It was at $0.80 by 11:50 and fell to $0.66 at 12:34 p.m., the low after the open. A bounce took it to $0.82 at 12:54, but it did not last. It settled near $0.75 through the afternoon and finished at $0.74 at the close.

By the close, 23.97 million shares had traded: the float changed hands about 7 times, at about 60 times its normal volume.
