The day before
On September 16, DTSS ran from $0.69 to $1.08 and closed at $0.59, below where it opened.
A press release had come out that morning at 9:28 a.m.: “Datasea Expands into China's Trillion-RMB Silver Economy Through Strategic Cooperation in AI Elderly Care Robots.” Its last trade of the day was at $0.94.
Pre-market: the float traded by 9:15 a.m.
The 4:00 a.m. bar opened at $0.86, already above the $0.59 close. By 4:13 it was down to $0.70. A burst from 4:49 to 4:52 took it to $0.87, and it dipped to $0.71 by 4:54.
It chopped between about $0.71 and $0.87 until about 7:30, then slid. The pre-market low was $0.60 at 8:25 a.m., just above the previous close. From about 8:30 to 9:09 it mostly sat between $0.61 and $0.65, with little volume.
At 9:10 a.m. PRNewsWire ran: “Datasea's AI Agent Digital Marketing Services Enter Scaled Commercial Deployment, with Five Agreements Representing Potential Annualized Service Volume of Up to Approximately US$89.4 Million (RMB600 Million).” The stock was at $0.64 when the 9:10 minute began. By 9:12 it had touched $1.14, and the pre-market high was $1.18 at 9:13 a.m.
By 9:15 a.m., more shares had traded than exist in the whole float (8.19 million). 13.37 million shares traded before the bell.
Then it slid. It hit $0.78 at 9:22 a.m., down 34% from $1.18.
The open and the first halts
It opened at $0.97, up 64% from the previous close. The low since the open was $0.85 at 9:31.
At 9:32:51 it was halted (a volatility pause) with the last trade at $1.07. It reopened at 9:42:51 at $1.36, 27% above where it stopped, and cleared the $1.18 pre-market high. A single print of 388,771 shares crossed at $1.36 on the reopen.
It ran to $1.51 and was halted again at 9:43:10. It reopened at 9:53:10 at $1.65 on a 542,098-share print.
The high of that run was $1.80 at 9:53, a minute where it traded as low as $1.50. At 9:53:44 it was halted again with the last trade at $1.50. It reopened at 10:03:44 at $1.35.

Walls that came and went, 10:12 to 10:44

The stock reopened at 10:22:41 at $1.75, and a buy order swept 132,950 shares from $1.60 to $1.90 across 18 levels. It reached $1.90, up 9% from the reopen, and was halted again at 10:22:56.

Stop It's 10:44. DTSS is at $1.54, seconds after it reopened from a halt. The big ask wall that sat at $1.50 is gone. It was $1.90 at 10:22. Would you buy here?

What to take from it
- A halt can reopen far from where it stopped. The 11:25 a.m. halt stopped at $2.03 and reopened at $1.64.
- The cost of a market buy at a reopen depends on the book. On 5,000 shares, the 9:42 reopen cost $0 over the screen with 29,662 shares offered. The 11:05 reopen cost $235 with 1,019 offered.
- Most of the move was gone by the close. DTSS closed at $1.22, 47% below the $2.29 high.
Why it ran
