The day, step by step

The day before and pre-market

On September 15, JDZG traded between $3.41 and $4.00 on 500,283 shares. The official close was $3.72. The float is 5.14 million shares, so it's a small one.

Pre-market was almost empty. Only 133 shares traded before the bell. The pre-market high was $3.72 at 7:00 a.m.

A quiet morning

It opened at $3.72, the same as the previous close. It pushed to $3.99 in the 9:33 minute, then settled. For the next three hours it mostly sat between $3.80 and $4.08. Many minutes had no trades at all. At 11:51 it was $3.95, and at 12:26 it was $3.96.

The wall at $4.15

From 9:30 a.m. on, there was a large ask resting at exactly $4.15. Stacked right around it were more offers at $4.16, $4.17, $4.18 and $4.19. The $4.15 offer peaked at 173,284 shares at 12:31 p.m., about 3% of the float. The $4.17 offer had reached 84,004 shares at 11:07.

At 12:30 the stock started to trade heavily. It moved from $4.00 to $4.12 on 9,338 shares, then 51,204 shares in the 12:31 minute.

Stop It's 12:35. JDZG is at $4.15. Right at the price, a very large ask wall has been sitting there since the open, and more offers are stacked just above it. Would you buy here?

Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 12:35 p.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 12:32 p.m. ET.

Here's what happened. In under a second, 60,102 shares traded at $4.15 and the wall was gone. Buyers ate it.

Then the same thing repeated one level at a time. The $4.16 wall was eaten at 12:38. The $4.17 wall went at 12:41, with 38,024 shares trading at $4.17 over about ten seconds. The $4.18 wall went at 12:44. The $4.19 wall went at 12:45:56, right after a buy sweep at 12:45:55 of 17,007 shares ran from $4.18 to $4.20 across three levels.

The first halt and the reopen

The 12:47 minute opened at $4.50 and reached $4.60. At 12:47:36 it was halted (a volatility pause). It stayed halted for about 20 minutes.

Stop It's 1:07. JDZG last traded at $4.60 and has been halted for 20 minutes. Trading resumes in seconds. Would you buy the reopen?

Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 1:07 p.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 1:04 p.m. ET.

The top and the second halt

The high of the day came fast: $6.05 in the 1:07 minute. At 1:07:29 the screen showed $5.85 with 361 shares. A 5,000-share buy would have averaged $6.03 there, $889 over the screen.

It reopened at 1:17 p.m. at $4.39. A single print of 13,685 shares crossed at $4.39. A 5,000-share buy one second later would have shown $4.36 on the screen, with only 100 shares there, and averaged $4.60, $1,179 more.

The drop to $4.00

The next minute was wild. It opened at $4.28 and traded as high as $4.57 and as low as $4.00 in the 1:18 minute, down 34% from $6.05. A new ask wall showed up at $5.00 during that minute, peaking at 29,293 shares at 1:18:33. It closed the minute at $4.14.
