The day before
BNGO closed at $1.33 on September 14. At 9:00 a.m. that day, the company put out a press release about three peer-reviewed studies. The prior day's high was $1.38.
Pre-market: almost nothing traded
The first trade on the 15th was at $1.19 at 4:00 a.m. That was below the $1.33 close. The pre-market high was $1.38, also in the 4:00 minute. Only 647 shares traded before the bell. That is a very thin pre-market.
A slow grind after the open
It opened at $1.31, down 2% from the previous close. The 9:32 minute took it to $1.39 on 42,904 shares. Then it went quiet. For most of the next 45 minutes it crept from $1.42 to $1.55, often with only a few hundred shares a minute.
Stop It's 10:19. BNGO is at $1.56. It has crept up from $1.31 at the open and is trading around $1.55 on thin volume. Would you buy here?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 10:19 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 10:16 a.m. ET.
At 10:19 it broke. A buy of 36,969 shares swept from $1.56 to $1.58 across three levels. The minute traded 53,424 shares and reached $1.62. Over the next ten minutes it kept going: it reached $1.82 in the 10:28 minute, then $1.93 in the 10:29 minute on 330,095 shares.
$2.00, a pullback, and the top at $2.23
At 10:31 it touched $2.00. That was up 53% from the open. It could not hold it. Sells swept through at 10:32 and pushed it down to $1.88 in that minute. It slid to $1.82 by 10:36.
Then it turned up again. The 10:38 candle closed at $2.07 and the 10:39 candle at $2.15. The high so far was $2.23 in the 10:41 minute. That minute traded 560,788 shares and also dipped to $2.06.
It did not stay. At 10:43 it fell to $1.91, and by 10:48 sells of 35,242 and 51,529 shares swept the book. The low of that drop was $1.58 at 10:49, down 29% from $2.23. There were no halts all day.
The wall at $1.90
At 11:02:28 an ask wall was first seen at $1.90. By 11:30 it was still there. Meanwhile the stock had come back to the $1.72 to $1.85 range.
Stop It's 11:30. BNGO is at $1.82. An ask wall sits at $1.90, just above. The high so far was $2.23. Would you buy here?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 11:30 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 11:27 a.m. ET.
At 11:30 it pushed to $1.88, a lower high under the $2.23 top and just under the wall. The $1.90 wall peaked at 81,530 shares at 11:30:14, about 0.7% of the float. It did not trade through $1.90 in that minute. By the end of the minute it was at $1.84. After that it drifted back to the $1.70s.
The rest of the day
It faded slowly through the afternoon. By 12:31 p.m., more shares had traded than exist in the whole float (11.52 million). It was at $1.71 then. It slipped to $1.65 by 2:21 and fell sharply at 2:43, when it dropped from $1.63 to $1.49 on 82,251 shares. It hit $1.46 at 2:53, its low for the afternoon.
After that it crept back to $1.55 at the close. After hours it bounced to $1.90 at 5:24 p.m. on thin volume and ended the evening near $1.60.
For the regular session, 12.63 million shares traded, about 1.1 times the float, at 220 times normal volume.
What to take from it
- A slow grind on thin volume can change in one minute. BNGO crept for 45 minutes, then a 36,969-share sweep at 10:19 started the move to $2.23.
- The next push stopped lower. $2.23 at 10:41 a.m., then $1.88 at 11:30 a.m., right under a wall of about 81,000 shares at $1.90.
- Most of the move was gone by the close. It closed at $1.55, 30% below the $2.23 high.

News and SEC filings for BNGO published between the previous session's close and the first minute BNGO traded 20% above it, at 10:19 a.m. ET, newest first, from the same feeds the replay shows.

Intraday run. It opened down 1.5% at 1.31, then ran from the open to the high of 2.23 in 71 minutes.
| Time (ET) | What happened | Watch it |
|---|---|---|
| 4:00 a.m. | Pre-market high, 1.38 | |
| 9:30 a.m. | The open: 1.31, down 1.5% from the previous close | |
| 10:19 a.m. | First trade 20% above the previous close of 1.33 | |
| 10:41 a.m. | High of the day to the close, 2.23 | |

| 3:59 p.m. | Last trade before the 4:00 p.m. close, 1.55, 30.5% below the high |
The shape is a fixed rule, not a judgement: gapped 10% or more at the open, ran 10% or more from the open to the high, and faded if it gave back 30% or more of that move by the close.
The day in numbers
- Volume, from the one-minute bars: 647 shares before the 9:30 a.m. open (0%), 67,969 in the first 30 minutes (1%), and 12.94 million in the rest of the day to 8 p.m. (99%).
- Float rotation, the volume since 4 a.m. against the float of 11.52 million shares: past it once at 12:31 p.m.
- In our recaps, this is the only day BNGO met the small-cap rule.
