The day, step by step

Pre-market: a spike and a full give-back

The previous close was $1.28. The first pre-market trade was at 4:08 a.m., at $1.23. Then it was quiet. Most minutes had no trades.

At 4:58 a.m. it woke up. In two minutes it ran from $1.35 to $1.78 at 4:59 a.m., the pre-market high. At 5:00 a.m. it fell to $1.18 on 41,567 shares, the busiest pre-market minute. By 5:02 a.m. it touched $1.16, the low so far.

After that it sat between about $1.16 and $1.36 for hours. Many minutes had only a few hundred shares. 132,653 shares traded before the bell. That is small next to what came later.

The open and the halt

At 9:29 a.m. it was at $1.40. It opened at $1.42 and traded to $1.46 in the 9:30 minute.

The 9:31 minute was the breakout. It ran from $1.50 to $1.95 on 114,255 shares, through the $1.78 pre-market high. At 9:32:12 it was halted (a volatility pause). It reopened at 9:37:12 at $2.05.
