- Small cap
- Momentum
- Main move: midday
- Tiny float
- Halted twice
- Lower high after the top
- Faded after the second halt
The day before
VMAR closed on August 25 at $7.18. Two press releases came out that day: at 11:58 a.m., Vision Marine Technologies announced it was consolidating its public market listing on Nasdaq. At 12:31 p.m., it announced a U.S. patent application for E-Motion charging protection. The headlines are all the data says about them.
The float is small: 653,046 shares. Shares outstanding are the same number.
Pre-market and the open
Pre-market was quiet. Only 3,628 shares traded before the bell. The pre-market high was $7.90 at 9:11 a.m.
It opened at $7.56, up 5% from the previous close. The low since the open was $7.38 at 9:37.
The climb to $10
At 10:01 the volume picked up and the stock jumped from $8.50 to a high of $9.31 within a minute. It reached $9.55 at 10:04 a.m., up 26% from the open.
Then it stalled. For the next two hours it held between about $8.40 and just under $10. At 12:09 p.m. it traded through $10.00 for the first time that day.
The run to $12.96
The big move began at 12:18. In that one minute 18,533 shares traded and the high went from $10.52 to $11.58. For this float, that is a lot of stock in a minute.
It climbed to $12.43 at 12:28 p.m., pulled back to $11.23 at 12:29, then pushed to $12.96, the high so far, at 12:35 p.m. That is 80% above the previous close.
During the 12:39 p.m. minute, the day's volume passed the whole float (653,046). From 12:36 to 12:39 the stock traded between about $12.24 and $12.85.
Stop It's 12:40. VMAR is at $12.43, 53 cents under the $12.96 high from five minutes ago. The day's volume has already passed the float. Would you buy here?

Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 12:51 p.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 12:48 p.m. ET.
It reopened at 12:51:06 p.m. at $10.50, 6% below where it stopped. It did not stay there. The 12:51 candle hit $9.76, down 25% from $12.96, on 62,113 shares.
It bounced and pushed to $10.79 at 12:55 p.m., a lower high under the $12.96 top. By 1:08 p.m. it was trading around $8.95, and the low of the afternoon came at 1:18 p.m. at $8.04.
Second halt and the close
The stock then drifted between about $8.20 and $9.25 for over an hour. At 2:34 p.m. it spiked to $10.07 on 34,297 shares and was halted (a volatility pause) at that last trade of $10.07. It reopened at 2:39 p.m. at $10.21. In the 2:40 candle it dropped to $9.19.
It closed the regular session at $9.25, 29% under the $12.96 high. After hours it traded between $8.64 and $9.60, and at 5:00 p.m. the company filed a 6-K (a foreign company's current report).
In the regular session, 1.31 million shares traded: the float changed hands about 2 times, at about 9 times its normal volume.
What to take from it
- After the top, the next push stopped lower. $12.96 at 12:35 p.m., then $10.79 at 12:55 p.m.
- A halt can reopen lower than it stopped. The 12:41 p.m. halt stopped at $11.14 and reopened at $10.50, and the stock went lower still.
- A tiny float can move fast, and most of the move can go just as fast. It closed at $9.25, 29% below the $12.96 high.

News and SEC filings for VMAR published between the previous session's close and the first minute VMAR traded 20% above it, at 10:01 a.m. ET, newest first, from the same feeds the replay shows.
