- News: 6-K filing
- Bid wall eaten
- Halted once
- Float traded 70x
Pre-market: the float traded by 4:09 a.m.
The official previous close was $2.23. On August 18 the stock traded between $2.02 and $2.34 on 45,994 shares. The float is just 261,441 shares, so it doesn't take much volume to move it.
Pre-market trading started at 4:02 a.m. around $2.27. At 4:08 a.m. it traded through $3.00 for the first time. By 4:09 a.m., more shares had traded than exist in the whole float. From $2.38 at 4:08 it ran to $3.45 at 4:09. Then it fell to $2.48 at 4:10.
It climbed again from $2.53 at 4:12 a.m. By the end of the 4:19 minute more than 2.2 million shares had traded, about 8.5 times the float.
Stop It's 4:20. ZNB is at $4.01, up from the $2.23 previous close, and over 2 million shares have already traded in a stock with a 261,000-share float. Would you buy here?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 4:20 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 4:17 a.m. ET.
The next minute it hit $5.03, the high so far, at 4:21 a.m. Within three minutes it was back at $3.87. 15.66 million shares traded before the bell.
Lower highs, and the $4.20 bid
The slide went on. It fell to $3.33 at 4:35 a.m., 28% below the $4.64 print at 4:31. It bounced back to $4.65 at 4:50 and pushed to $4.80 at 5:07 a.m., a lower high under the $5.03 top.
This is the part a chart doesn't show you. From 5:21 a.m. a large bid sat at exactly $4.20. The bid peaked at 28,161 shares at 5:23 a.m., about 11% of the float. The price sat just above it.
Stop It's 5:24. ZNB is at $4.25. About 28,000 shares are bid at $4.20, just below. The high so far is $5.03. Would you buy here?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 5:24 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 5:21 a.m. ET.
Trading at $4.20 began at 5:24:11. In 5.3 seconds, 22,535 shares traded at exactly $4.20 and the bid was gone. It wasn't pulled. Sellers hit it. The 5:24 minute low was $4.13.
From there the price drifted lower: $3.84 by 5:41, about $3.60 by 6:00. At 6:53 it popped to $4.10 on heavy volume and was back at $3.59 within two minutes.
At 7:00 a.m. the company filed a 6-K (a foreign company's current report). The stock fell to $3.23 within two minutes and kept sliding to $2.58 by 8:07 a.m.
The open and a quiet middle
It opened at $2.66, up 19% from the previous close. It pushed to $2.84 in the 9:32 minute, then slipped to $2.33 by 9:59.
From mid-morning the stock was thin and sat near $2.50. Many minutes traded just a few thousand shares, some a few hundred. Regular-session volume was 2.42 million shares, far less than the 15.66 million traded before the bell.
The afternoon run and the halt
At 2:30 p.m. it woke up from $2.57. Two large buy sweeps came at 2:41 (24,473 shares) and 2:44 (28,335 shares). It reached $3.20 at 2:49 p.m., the high since the open.
Then it reversed. At 2:50:40 a 26,700-share sell swept from $2.94 to $2.76 across 19 levels. The 2:50 candle ran from $3.19 down to $2.72. By 2:54 it was at $2.24.
At 2:55 p.m. it was halted (a volatility pause) with the last trade at $2.16.
Stop It's 3:00. ZNB was halted at 2:55 with a last trade of $2.16, after falling from $3.20 in six minutes. The halt is about to end. Would you buy the reopen?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 3:00 p.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 2:57 p.m. ET.
It reopened at 3:00 p.m. at $2.26, about 5% above where it stopped. By 3:05 it was back at $2.22.
It chopped around $2.22 until 3:07, when the price fell through. It hit $1.78 at 3:07 p.m., the low of the day, on 80,905 shares in one minute. It was back near $2.00 by 3:13.
The close and after hours
It drifted up into the close: $2.12 by 3:41, a pop to $2.26 in the 3:55 minute, and $2.23 at the close. That is exactly the previous close.
At 3:55 p.m. a large bid appeared at $1.80, well under the price. It peaked at 86,468 shares at 3:57, about 33% of the float.
Over the whole day, 18.20 million shares traded: the float changed hands about 70 times, at about 106 times the stock's normal volume. Of that, 15.66 million traded pre-market, 2.42 million in the regular session and 120,364 after hours.
What to take from it
- After the top, every later push stopped lower. $5.03 at 4:21 a.m.; after the drop to $3.87 at 4:24, the best retry was $4.80 at 5:07 a.m.
- A bid wall can break in seconds. The $4.20 bid held about 28,000 shares and was gone in 5.3 seconds of selling.
- Fills near the extremes cost more than the screen says. At the high and at the halt reopen, the screen showed only 21 and 156 shares at the quoted price.
- The whole gap was gone by the close. ZNB ended at $2.23, the same price as the previous close, 56% below the $5.03 high.
Why it ran
News and SEC filings for ZNB published between the previous session's close and the first minute ZNB traded 20% above it, at 4:07 a.m. ET, newest first, from the same feeds the replay shows.
No news found before the move.
How it traded
Gap, run and fade. It gapped up 19.3% to 2.66 at the open, ran from the open to the high of 3.20 in 319 minutes, then gave back 180% of that move by 4:00 p.m., trading at 2.23.
| Time (ET) | What happened | Watch it |
|---|---|---|
| 4:07 a.m. | First trade 20% above the previous close of 2.23 | |
| 4:09 a.m. | Volume since 4:00 a.m. passes the whole float, 261,441 shares | |
| 4:21 a.m. | Pre-market high, 5.03 | |
| 4:21 a.m. | High of the day to the close, 5.03 | |
| 9:30 a.m. | The open: 2.66, up 19.3% from the previous close | |
| 2:55 p.m. | Halted: LULD pause (limit up-limit down). Trading resumes at 3:00 p.m. | |
| 3:59 p.m. | Last trade before the 4:00 p.m. close, 2.23, 55.7% below the high |
The shape is a fixed rule, not a judgement: gapped 10% or more at the open, ran 10% or more from the open to the high, and faded if it gave back 30% or more of that move by the close.
The day in numbers

- Float rotation, the volume since 4 a.m. against the float of 261,441 shares: past it once at 4:09 a.m., twice at 4:10 a.m., three times at 4:13 a.m.
