The day, step by step

The day before

On August 18, AZI was quiet. It traded between $1.15 and $1.26 on 49,099 shares and closed at $1.15. The float is 189,452 shares, so a few hundred thousand shares of volume would be a lot.

Pre-market: the float traded by 5:26 a.m.

The first trades on the 19th were at $1.20, above the $1.15 close. Then almost nothing happened. Fewer than 1,000 shares traded between 4:00 and 4:39 a.m., and there were no trades at all until 5:22.

At 5:22 it woke up. By 5:23 it was at $1.37, and the 5:24 minute alone traded 105,060 shares. By 5:26 a.m., more shares had traded than exist in the whole float (189,452). By 5:36 a.m. that was ten times the float.

It was not a straight line up. The 5:26 minute reached $1.43. Then the 5:29 minute fell to $1.00 and at 5:30 it hit $0.94, down 34% from $1.43 four minutes earlier.

It recovered fast. The pre-market high was $1.55 at 5:37 a.m. Then it dropped to $1.23 at 5:38 and ran to $1.42 at 5:40. At 5:40:29 a single 23,881-share print went through at $1.37, and in the same second a sell order swept 39,073 shares from $1.37 to $1.35. It fell to $1.09 at 5:42. By 5:55 it was back at $1.46. After that it drifted down for more than an hour, to $1.15 at 7:03 a.m., right at the previous close. 8.22 million shares traded before the bell.

At 7:15 a.m. GlobeNewsWire ran: “Autozi Internet Technology (Global) Ltd. (Nasdaq: AZI) Announces Receipt of US$30 Million Investment to Accelerate Strategic Growth”. The 7:15 minute traded 250,591 shares, and a 29,866-share buy order swept ten price levels from $1.18 to $1.27 in the first seconds. By 7:16 it had touched $1.39. It faded back to $1.20 by 7:32.

At 11:53:50 a sell order swept 55,392 shares from $1.85 to $1.78 across eight levels. By 11:59 it was at $1.93, just under the wall. At 12:00 it fell to $1.73, and the 12:06 minute dipped to $1.57.
