Pre-market: the float traded by 9:11 a.m.
The first trades on the 13th were at $1.38, already above the $1.26 close. The stock then drifted down to about $1.30 and traded in tiny size for hours.
At 7:29 a.m. PRNewsWire ran: “DEFSEC Technologies Inc. Announces Third Quarter Fiscal 2026 Results”. At 8:25 a.m. the company filed a 6-K (a foreign company's current report).
The real move came later. From $1.31 at 8:10 a.m. it ground higher, then at 9:02 a.m. it jumped from $1.53 to $2.18 inside one minute, up 66% from $1.31. About 283,000 shares traded in that minute.
It gave a lot back within minutes. It fell to $1.60 at 9:06 a.m., down 27% from $2.18. A bid for 119,372 shares sat at $1.60 from 9:02. It was pulled at 9:06:50 and a new bid of the same price appeared a second later. It grew to 161,297 shares by 9:35.
By 9:11 a.m., more shares had traded than exist in the whole float (2.66 million). It then ran from $1.67 at 9:07 to $2.44 at 9:18 a.m., up 46%.
The pre-market high was $2.72 at 9:29 a.m. 9.55 million shares traded before the bell.
The bid at $3.02
It opened at $2.58, up 105% from the previous close. In the first minute it cleared the pre-market high of $2.72 and traded through $3.00, the first time it had been that high all day.
The order book showed more. From 9:30:23, a large bid sat at exactly $3.02. The bid peaked at 177,607 shares at 9:30:35, about 7% of the float.
At 9:30:37 it was halted (a volatility pause) with the last trade at $3.02. It reopened at 9:35:37 at $3.15, 4% above where it stopped. The first print was 256,036 shares at $3.15.
From the reopen it ran to $3.49 in the same minute, up 11% from $3.15. Then it turned. At 9:35:49 trades began hitting the $3.02 bid, and within a second 37,956 shares traded at $3.02 and the bid was gone. One sell order of about 171,000 shares went from $3.21 to $2.90 across 32 price levels.
It fell to $2.43 at 9:37 a.m., down 30% from $3.49. For the next few minutes it chopped between $2.52 and $2.93.
Stop It's 9:43. DFSC is at $2.78. Since 9:38 it has traded between $2.52 and $2.93, and the $3.02 bid that broke at 9:35 is behind it. Would you buy here?

A big bid showed at $2.75 from 9:44:41 and grew to 487,062 shares (18% of the float) by 9:46:00. It was pulled at 9:46:27.
Two more halts in 16 minutes
At 9:45:49 it was halted (a volatility pause) with the last trade at $3.57. A bid at $3.57 had shown up at 9:45:34 and peaked at 153,322 shares at 9:45:48. It was pulled at 9:50:50, just after the stock reopened.

The rest of the day
After the halts it settled into a slow chop. It stayed mostly between $2.08 and $2.55 through the late morning. The low since the open was $2.08 at 10:52 a.m. By 11:11 a.m. ten times the float had traded. At 12:23 p.m. a Schedule 13G/A was filed.
Stop It's 12:55. DFSC is at $2.40. Since noon it has traded between $2.10 and $2.50, on thin volume compared with the morning. Would you buy here?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 12:55 p.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 12:52 p.m. ET.
Here's what happened. The 12:55 minute closed at $2.54, and 12:56 reached $2.73. A buy order of about 47,600 shares went from $2.55 to $2.60 across 6 levels at 12:56:34. At 1:03 p.m. it pushed to $2.88, a lower high under the $3.57 top.
It didn't hold. At 1:04 p.m. a sell order of about 48,000 shares went from $2.71 to $2.63. In the 1:05 minute it dropped from $2.65 to $2.31, and it touched $2.28 in the 1:06 minute.
The afternoon was a quiet range, with $2.17 at 3:19 p.m. At 3:47 two buy orders ran it from $2.33 to $2.46 in seconds, and it faded again. It closed the regular session at $2.30.
After hours it bounced to $2.76 at 4:35 p.m. and traded at $2.41 in the last minute at 7:59 p.m. About 2.22 million shares traded after hours.
Through the 4 p.m. close, 38.95 million shares had traded (9.55 million pre-market, 29.40 million in the regular session): the float changed hands about 15 times. For the whole day, 41.17 million shares traded, about 1,550 times its normal volume (normal volume is tiny: about 27,000 shares a day).
What to take from it
- A halt can reopen lower than it stopped, and the reopen can be the thin part. The 9:45 halt stopped at $3.57 and reopened at $3.20. A 5,000-share buy a second later cost $810 more than the screen showed. At the 10:01 reopen the same order cost nothing extra.
- After the top, the next push stopped lower. $3.57 at 9:45 a.m., then $2.88 at 1:03 p.m.
- Most of the move was gone by the close. It closed at $2.30, 36% below the $3.57 high.
Why it ran
