The day before
On August 10, NCRA traded between $1.92 and $2.16 and closed at $2.05. 24,314 shares changed hands.
4 a.m.: the spike and the first drop
The first trades on the 11th were at $2.31, already above the $2.05 close. By the end of that first minute the stock had traded as high as $3.82, up 86% from the close.
Then it dropped. At 4:01 a.m. it fell to $2.99, 22% under $3.82. In that same minute, one sell order swept 11,786 shares through 25 price levels, from $3.79 down to $3.50. A move like that is one big order walking down the book.
Stop It's 4:03 a.m. NCRA is at $3.79. It opened pre-market at $2.31 three minutes ago, the previous close was $2.05, and it traded as high as $4.16 in the last minute. Would you buy here?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 4:03 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 4:00 a.m. ET.
Here's what happened. It ran to $4.21 at 4:03 a.m., the high so far, up 105% from the close. At 4:03:00 another sell sweep took 15,209 shares from $3.78 to $3.70. By the end of the minute it was at $3.70.
It pushed back to $3.90 at 4:07, then fell to $3.13 at 4:08. Another push reached $3.65 at 4:11, also under $4.21. By 4:11 a.m., more shares had traded than exist in the whole float (2.11 million).
4:13 to 8 a.m.: a long slide
At 4:13 the stock broke down. It fell from $3.55 to $2.66 in two minutes, with another 19,035-share sell sweep at 4:13:44 (from $3.11 to $3.04). A 26,002-share bid wall at $2.34 had appeared at 4:13:43. It was pulled at 4:17:55, while the stock stayed above it.
After that volume dried up. The stock drifted between about $2.50 and $3.30 through 6 a.m., then lower. At 7:28 it traded under the $2.05 close, and at 7:37 it hit $1.85, the low so far. In all, 6.87 million shares traded pre-market, about 3 times the float.
Two headlines
At 8:00 a.m. GlobeNewsWire ran: “Nocera and INERGX Form 50/50 Joint Venture to Acquire and Consolidate the Mission-Critical Energy Supply Chain Serving AI Data Centers, Defense & Heavy Industry, Targeting a $250 Million Valuation for INERGX”. In that minute the stock went from $1.94 to $2.16 on 75,156 shares, its biggest minute since 4:43. It touched $2.17 a minute later.
At 8:31 a second headline came: “Nocera Clears Every Open Nasdaq Listing Matter With Stockholders' Equity of $5.4 Million - More Than Double the Required Minimum - and Turns Full Attention to Acquisitions”. In that minute it moved from $2.12 to $2.23. It reached $2.27 at 8:35, slipped to $2.14 by 9:02, then climbed to $2.42 by 9:29.
Both times the move was small next to the 4 a.m. spike. The stock had already run and faded before either headline was out.
The open
Stop It's 9:30. NCRA is opening at $2.38, 16% above the $2.05 close. It has climbed from $1.94 at 8:00, with two headlines out. The high so far, $4.21, came at 4:03 a.m. Would you buy the open?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 9:30 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 9:27 a.m. ET.
Here's what happened. It opened at $2.38. A 10,777-share print at $2.41 went through on Nasdaq at 9:30:00, and it was the high for the minute. Then it slid. A 13,893-share sell sweep at 9:34:27 ran from $2.10 to $2.08, and the 9:34 candle bottomed at $2.07 on 36,345 shares. It touched $2.05 at 9:45.
It then worked higher. At 10:08:30 a 13,535-share buy sweep ran from $2.28 to $2.32. At 10:17:42 another buy sweep took 13,089 shares from $2.35 to $2.44. The high of the regular session was $2.49 at 10:36. That was 41% under the pre-market high.
Above the price, sellers stacked up. Ask walls sat at $2.58 and $2.75, up to about 34,000 shares each (1.5% to 1.7% of the float). The stock never traded up to either price in the regular session.
Midday dip and the close
From 10:37 on it faded and went quiet, drifting between about $2.02 and $2.48 for hours. At 12:44 a 37,100-share print went through at $2.14, at the bid. At 12:50 it hit $2.02, the low of the regular session. A 75,500-share bid wall at $2.05 showed up at 12:57. That is 3.6% of the float, and it was pulled at 1:04 p.m.
It recovered late. It reached $2.43 at 3:15 and $2.48 at 3:56, and closed at $2.44, 42% under the high of the day. The regular session traded 1.02 million shares. After hours it dipped to $2.22 at 4:09 p.m., bounced to $2.40 at 4:19, and traded 81,425 shares.
For the whole day, 7.98 million shares traded, about 3.8 times the float and 2.7 times normal volume. About 86% of that came before 9:30 a.m.
What to take from it
- After the top, the next pushes stopped lower. $4.21 at 4:03 a.m., then $3.90 at 4:07 and $3.65 at 4:11.
- Near the top, the book was thin. At 4:03:13 a.m. only 64 shares were offered at the screen price, and 5,000 shares averaged $239 higher.
- Most of the volume came before the news. The float traded over by 4:11 a.m., and both headlines came after the stock had already run and faded.
Why it ran
News and SEC filings for NCRA published between the previous session's close and the first minute NCRA traded 20% above it, at 4:00 a.m. ET, newest first, from the same feeds the replay shows.
No news found before the move.
How it traded
Gap and hold. It gapped up 16.1% to 2.38 at the open and held above it, trading at 2.44 at 4:00 p.m.
| Time (ET) | What happened | Watch it |
|---|---|---|
| 4:00 a.m. | First trade 20% above the previous close of 2.05 | |
| 4:03 a.m. | Pre-market high, 4.21 | |
| 4:03 a.m. | High of the day to the close, 4.21 | |
| 4:11 a.m. | Volume since 4:00 a.m. passes the whole float, 2.11 million shares | |
| 9:30 a.m. | The open: 2.38, up 16.1% from the previous close | |
| 3:59 p.m. | Last trade before the 4:00 p.m. close, 2.44, 42.0% below the high |
The shape is a fixed rule, not a judgement: gapped 10% or more at the open, ran 10% or more from the open to the high, and faded if it gave back 30% or more of that move by the close.
