Pre-market: quiet, then 8:30
The previous close was $1.82. Pre-market started thin: the first trade at 4:00 a.m. was $1.83, and for hours the stock printed small volume, mostly between $1.80 and $1.95.
At 8:30 a.m. GlobeNewswire ran: “Reliance Global Group Signs LOI to Sell Altruis Benefit Consulting for $11 Million in Cash”. In that same minute the stock went from $1.85 to $3.68, and 542,424 shares traded.
By the end of 8:31, more shares had traded than exist in the whole float (984,617). The 8:31 minute alone printed 572,192 shares and dropped to $2.53.
Pre-market: the fade and two more waves
It did not hold. It bounced to $3.31 at 8:32, then slid to $1.84 at 8:35, almost back to where it started.
The second wave began at $2.29 in the 8:41 minute and reached $3.40 at 8:47. It slipped to $2.66 by 8:51. By the 8:58 minute the day's volume was ten times the float.
The third wave built through 8:57 and 8:58 and set the pre-market high of $3.78 at 9:00. 15.67 million shares traded before the bell. After that it sagged for 19 minutes, to $2.86 at 9:19, and was back near $3.19 by 9:29.
The open
The open was $3.20, up 76% from the $1.82 close. In the 9:30 minute it cleared the pre-market high of $3.78 (high $3.79). The next minute, 9:31, was the busiest of the morning: 1,476,633 shares, and a high of $4.31. At 9:32 it reached $4.42.
Stop It's 9:34. EZRA is at $4.29. It opened at $3.20, cleared the $3.78 pre-market high four minutes ago, and has traded as high as $4.42. Would you buy here?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 9:34 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 9:32 a.m. ET.
At 9:34:34 one buy order swept 76,511 shares from $4.38 to $4.55 across 18 price levels. The stock hit $4.60, the high so far, in the 9:34 minute.
It did not stay up. By 9:38 it had dipped to $3.86. It got back to $4.60 at 9:44 but did not trade through it, and then it slid to $3.41 at 9:50.
The wall at $4.00
From 10:02 on, stock was offered at exactly $4.00. It grew to 42,598 shares at 10:09, about 4% of the float, while the price traded between $3.58 and $3.98.
Stop It's 10:10. EZRA is at $3.85. About 42,600 shares were offered at $4.00 at the wall's peak a minute ago, just above the price. Would you buy here?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 10:10 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 10:07 a.m. ET.
At 10:10:14 a buy order swept 55,025 shares from $3.98 to $4.07. In under a second, 45,254 shares traded at exactly $4.00 and the wall was gone. It wasn't pulled. Buyers ate it. The 10:10 minute topped out at $4.07 and closed at $3.73, so the break didn't hold.
The rest of the day
At 10:15:26 another buy sweep took 72,354 shares from $3.96 to $4.07, and the 10:15 minute reached $4.41. That was a lower high under the $4.60 top. By 10:16 it was back to $3.90, and a sell sweep at 10:26:40 of 59,496 shares took it from $3.91 down to $3.74.
At 10:51 it fell from $3.92 to $3.37 inside one minute. Two sell sweeps (55,590 and 57,722 shares) went through at 10:51:19 and 10:51:21. It opened at $3.30 at 11:01 and dipped to $3.20 that minute.
A bid wall had sat at $3.00 since 10:45. It peaked at 45,621 shares at 11:23. At 12:24:06 a 56,209-share sell sweep ran from $3.08 to $2.94, and the wall was gone. At 1:16 p.m. a sell sweep of 100,552 shares went from $2.87 to $2.61.
The low after the open was $2.35 at 3:27 p.m. It closed the regular session at $2.60.
The regular session traded 27.89 million shares, and pre-market added 15.67 million. After hours added 535,616. For the whole day, 44.09 million shares traded: the float changed hands about 45 times, at about 800 times the stock's normal volume.
What to take from it
- After two tops at $4.60, the next push stopped lower. $4.60 at 9:34 and again at 9:44, then $4.41 at 10:15.
- A broken wall doesn't mean a breakout. The $4.00 wall was eaten in under a second, and the minute still closed at $3.73. The 5,000-share order paid $355 over the screen.
- The float traded over before the open. By 8:31 a.m. more shares had traded than the float holds. The stock closed at $2.60, about 43% below the $4.60 high.
