The day before

Pre-market: the float traded by 4:06 a.m.

The first trades on the 12th were at $1.59, already above the $1.00 close.

From $1.35 at 4:00 a.m. it ran to the pre-market high, $1.92 at 4:02 a.m. 11.44 million shares traded before the bell.

By 4:06 a.m., more shares had traded than exist in the whole float (1.50 million).

Then it drifted down. It dipped to $1.10 at 8:11 a.m., 43% below the $1.92 high, and was back at $1.26 by the end of that minute.

The open and the halt

It opened at $1.29, up 29% from the previous close. It spent the morning between about $1.24 and $1.66. By 11:01 a.m. the volume since 4 a.m. was ten times the float.

Just after noon it woke up. From $1.47 at 12:00 p.m. it ran to $1.95 at 12:05 p.m. At 12:07 p.m. it was halted (a volatility pause) with the last trade at $1.41. It reopened at 12:12 p.m. at $1.39.

Then it fell to $1.25 at 12:13 p.m., 36% below the $1.95 high from eight minutes earlier.

The wall at $2.00

An ask wall at exactly $2.00 first showed up at 4:06 a.m. It grew to a peak of 63,789 shares at 12:05 p.m., about 4% of the float. A smaller ask wall at $1.80 was taken at 12:04 p.m.: buyers took 21,475 shares at that price in under a second.

After the halt, the stock climbed back from $1.46 at 12:27 p.m. and worked up under $2.00 for about half an hour.

Here's what happened. At 12:57:18 the first trade printed at $2.00. In under a second, 41,568 shares traded at exactly $2.00 and the wall was gone. It wasn't pulled. Buyers ate it.

From $1.55 at 12:30 p.m. it ran to $2.44 at 1:01 p.m., up 57%.

The $2.30 wall

It chopped between about $1.90 and $2.47 for the next 50 minutes. At 1:51 p.m. another ask wall showed up, this time at $2.30.

At 1:55:25 p.m. a buy order swept through, and 41,709 shares traded at exactly $2.30 in under a second. The wall was gone. Two more big buy sweeps followed, at 1:55:55 and 1:56:13. By 1:56 p.m. it had hit $2.71.

At 2:24 p.m. it traded through $3.00 for the first time. From $2.40 at 2:15 p.m. it ran to $3.01 at 2:24 p.m., up 25%.

At 2:30:13 a buy order of 157,416 shares went through 21 price levels, from $2.94 to $3.14. From $2.71 at 2:25 p.m. it ran to $3.39 at 2:30 p.m., up 25%.

The top at $3.49

From $3.10 at 2:33 p.m. it ran to $3.49, the high of the day, at 2:37 p.m. The same minute it traded as low as $3.12 and closed at $3.18. Within five minutes it was at $2.80.

The fade and after hours

It pushed again. At 2:41 p.m. it reached $3.40, a lower high under the $3.49 top, and at 2:46 p.m. it pushed to $3.18, lower again.

From there it faded: $2.82 at 2:48 p.m., $2.75 at 2:54 p.m., and $2.06 at 3:14 p.m. A late bounce reached $2.98 at 3:31 p.m. It closed at $2.26.

Before the 4 p.m. close, 58.43 million shares had traded, pre-market and regular session together: the float changed hands about 39 times. Relative volume was about 181 times normal.

After hours it rose to $2.57 at 4:10 p.m., then fell to $1.61 by 7:14 p.m., down 37%.
