Pre-market: the headline at 7:35

The first trades on the 28th were at $1.05, below the $1.11 previous close. For more than three hours almost nothing traded. The 4:52 a.m. bar was $1.12 on 108 shares.

At 7:35 a.m. GlobeNewsWire ran: “Maris-Tech Receives Record US$10 Million Order - Its Largest-Ever Contract - for Advanced Video Systems on Next-Generation Airborne Defense Platforms”. The 7:35 bar opened at $1.17 and reached $1.41. The next minute it hit $1.50. That one minute traded 448,333 shares.

The big move came at 7:40. It opened at $1.50 and ran to $1.85 in a minute that traded over a million shares. A 16,522-share print went through at $1.51 at 7:40:12. By 7:42 it had reached $1.92.

By the end of 7:44 a.m. about 5.4 million shares had traded in the session. That is more than the whole float (5.06 million). By the bell, 20.9 million had traded, about four times the float.

The top at $1.94

The high so far came at 7:53 a.m.: $1.94. At 7:53:02 a buyer swept 43,716 shares from $1.88 to $1.90 across three levels.

Over the next few minutes it held in a $1.65 to $1.86 range. At 7:55:01 a seller swept 47,015 shares down from $1.75 to $1.71.

The slide, and the bid walls

At 8:00 a.m. the company filed a 6-K (a foreign company's current report). The data shows only the filing's time, not what moved the stock. The 8:00 bar went from $1.72 to $1.58, and a 42,243-share sell swept from $1.66 to $1.63 at 8:00:19.

Bids stacked up under the price. At 8:00:31 a bid wall of 63,261 shares showed at $1.33. At 8:04 another formed at $1.43, and it peaked at 56,695 shares at 8:07. The selling kept coming. At 8:10 the $1.43 wall was eaten: 41,692 shares traded at exactly $1.43 in about 5 seconds. It wasn't pulled. Sellers hit it.

The $1.33 wall was eaten at 8:15:31, after 27,563 shares traded at exactly $1.33 in about 6 seconds. The $1.32 wall was eaten by 8:15:41. The low of that move was $1.29 at 8:15, down 34% from $1.94. A new $1.29 wall peaked at 58,728 shares at 8:16, and it lasted until 8:23.

It came back once more. At 8:18 it pushed to $1.42, a lower high under the $1.94 top. A 47,635-share buy swept from $1.39 to $1.41 at 8:18:05. Then it went quiet at around $1.28 to $1.35.

The $1.08 wall and the open

At 8:34 it dropped to $1.24, under the $1.28 low from 8:23. From 8:41 on, a bid wall formed at exactly $1.08. It peaked at 46,370 shares at 8:46.

At 8:47:10 the first trade printed at $1.08. In 13.9 seconds, 42,225 shares traded at exactly $1.08 and the wall was gone. It was eaten by sellers, not pulled. The 8:47 bar low was $1.06.

It slid under $1.00 by 9:02. A 74,056-share sell swept eight levels at 9:02:56. The regular session opened at $1.00, down 10% from the previous close. A 37,267-share print went through at $1.00 at 9:30:00.

The rest of the day

It bounced to $1.10 at 9:38, then drifted down. At 9:54:26 a 42,947-share sell swept 38 levels from $0.99 to $0.93, and $0.93 at 9:54 was the low after the open.

After that it barely moved. From about 10 a.m. most bars traded a few thousand shares or less, between $0.96 and $1.05. It closed at $0.97, 50% below the $1.94 high.

After hours, the low was $0.8876 at 4:09 p.m. There was no halt all day.

Regular-session volume was 1.96 million shares. The whole day was 23.2 million, about 4.6 times the float, and over 1,000 times its normal volume. The pre-market session was 20.9 million of that.

What to take from it

• Bid walls are not floors. Five large bids, at $1.43, $1.33, $1.32, $1.29 and $1.08, were eaten in 5 to 14 seconds each when sellers kept coming.
• After the top, the next push stopped lower. $1.94 at 7:53 a.m., then $1.42 at 8:18 a.m.
• Almost all the volume came before the open. 20.9 million shares traded pre-market, and the regular session traded under 2 million.
