Pre-market: a quiet drift

The pre-market high was $6.86 at 4:00 a.m. It sank to $6.24 by 4:08 a.m., then drifted between about $6.28 and $6.85 for the rest of the morning. 15,395 shares traded before the bell.

A slow morning near $7

It opened at $6.54, about 1.5% under the previous close. The 9:31 minute was the busiest of the first half hour, 3,680 shares, and it pushed to $6.84. It touched $7.00 at 9:38.

The next two hours were small. It chopped between about $6.76 and $7.76. At 11:16 it reached $7.76. By 11:44 it was back at $7.30. It was drifting on small volume.

Around noon it picked up. It touched $8.00 at 12:09 and again at 12:10, then traded between about $7.65 and $8.00 until 12:35.

The run and the halt

The move began at 12:39. At 12:43 it hit $9.08, on 15,409 shares, a big minute for this stock. At 12:47 the volume jumped to 38,385 shares. At 12:48 it reached $9.94, on 46,753 shares.

It slipped to $8.69 at 12:50, then came back. At 12:55 it traded through $10.00 and hit $10.40, on 68,761 shares. By 12:58 it had reached $11.12.

At 12:58:34 it was halted (a volatility pause) with the last trade at $11.12. The halt lasted ten minutes.

It reopened at 1:08:34 p.m. at $12.05, 8% above the halt price. The first print was one trade of 39,540 shares at $12.05. The high of the day came in that same minute: $13.21.

A lower high, then the second halt

This time the reopen went down. It bounced to $10.35 at 1:22, then fell to $8.95 at 1:23 and $8.04 at 1:28.

The fade to the close

What to take from it

• The book was thin at the first reopen. At the first reopen the screen said $12.58, but a 5,000-share buy averaged $12.90.
• The top came in the same minute as the reopen. $13.21 printed at 1:08, and within three minutes the price was below the $12.05 reopen.
• The second halt reopened lower. The 1:16 halt stopped at $10.06 and reopened at $9.69. The first halt reopened higher, at $12.05 after stopping at $11.12.
