The bid at $10.60
From 10:34 a.m. on, Level 2 showed a large bid at $10.60. It peaked at 20,307 shares at 10:34 a.m., 0.6% of the float. The price was trading well above it.
At 11:07:39 a.m. it was pulled: the size left the book without trading there. Earlier bids of about 20,000 shares at $11.56, $10.68 and $11.93 had also come and gone between 10:23 and 10:34.
While that bid sat in the book, the stock climbed from $13.76 at 10:33 a.m. to $18.69 at 11:07 a.m. After it was pulled, the stock reached $19.18 at 11:09 a.m.
More halts
At 11:12 a.m. it was halted again, with the last trade at $16.23. That was the ninth halt of the day.
Stop It's 11:17. RDAC has been halted since 11:12. The last trade was $16.23, and trading resumes in seconds. Would you buy the reopen?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 11:17 a.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 11:14 a.m. ET.
Here's what happened. It reopened at 11:17:01 at $16.23. By the end of that minute it was at $15.51, with a low of $15.05.
It was halted again at 12:03 p.m. at $11.67 and reopened at 12:13 p.m. at $11.31, below where it stopped. This time the book was deep. A 5,000-share buy one second later would have averaged $11.31, $0 more than the screen, since 4,979 shares were offered there.
It was halted a last time at 12:26 p.m. and reopened at 12:31 p.m. at $11.06. That made 11 halts.
The rest of the day
It kept fading: $9.35 at 12:23 p.m., a low of $8.70 at 2:38 p.m. after the open, and $9.44 at the close.
From 4 a.m. to the close, 11.33 million shares traded: the float changed hands about 3 times, at over 2,000 times its normal volume (normal volume is tiny: about 6,000 shares a day). 5.67 million of those traded in the regular session.
After hours it ran from $8.61 at 4:36 p.m. to $11.74 by 5:23 p.m., up 36%. After-hours volume for the whole evening was 310,307 shares.
What to take from it
- After the top, the next push stopped lower. $22.51 at 9:52 a.m., then $20.50 at 10:08 a.m.
- A halt reopen can cost a lot or nothing, depending on the book. At 9:51 a.m. a 5,000-share buy averaged $3,860 over the screen. At 12:13 p.m. it averaged $0 over, because the book was deep. A halt can also reopen lower than it stopped: the 9:53 a.m. halt stopped at $18.81 and reopened at $18.00.
- Most of the move was gone by the close. It closed at $9.44, 58% below the $22.51 high.
