Right after that reopen a bid wall appeared at $8.11, first seen at 9:55:09. It peaked at 26,093 shares at 9:55:30, about 4.5% of the float. It sat there for half an hour.
At 10:26:44 that wall was pulled. The 10:26 candle dropped from $10.14 to $9.28, and at 10:27 it fell to $8.87.
Fourth halt: 10:27:34 to 10:32:34. It reopened at $9.00 with a 25,275-share print. Four seconds later a 26,180-share sell order went through the book from $8.92 down to $8.50.
A new bid wall showed up at $7.00 at 10:33:30. It peaked at 37,368 shares at 10:36:35 (6.5% of the float) and was pulled at 10:53:09. By then it was trading around $8, and it never got down to the $7.00 wall.
The wall at $8.99
The stock settled into a quiet range. In the early afternoon it hit its lowest price of the regular session, $7.27 at 1:01 p.m.
Offers began to stack above it. An ask wall at $8.94 first showed at 12:22:53, grew to 25,985 shares by 12:57, and was pulled at 1:24:50. A minute later a new ask wall appeared at exactly $8.99. It peaked at 28,313 shares at 1:42 p.m., about 5% of the float.
Stop It's 1:58. WXM is at $7.77. Since 1:25 p.m. a large ask wall has sat at $8.99, peaking at 28,313 shares. The stock hasn't been near $9 since the morning. Would you buy here?
Press play: the real Level 2, time and sales and chart stop at 1:58 p.m. ET for your call, then show what happened. The clip starts at 1:55 p.m. ET.
At 1:59:23 the wall was pulled. The 1:59 candle ran from $7.98 to $8.50, and 2:00 hit $8.71. It never reached $8.99. By 2:02 it was back at $8.02.
The rest of the day
The afternoon was a slow grind between about $7.60 and $8.90. It was $8.94 at 3:10 p.m. and it closed at $7.92, 43% under the $13.96 high of the day. That high came before the bell, 30% above where it opened.
Before the close (pre-market plus regular session), 24.72 million shares had traded: the float changed hands about 43 times, at over 1,000 times its normal volume. Normal volume is tiny, about 23,000 shares a day. It was halted 4 times.
After hours
After hours it kept falling. It traded up to $8.14 in the 4:00 p.m. minute, and hit a low of $5.67 at 4:49 p.m., down 28% from the $7.92 close. 402,021 shares traded after the close.
What to take from it
- A big wall can vanish without a single trade. The $8.99 ask wall was pulled at 1:59 p.m. and the stock never reached it. A bid wall that size sat at $8.11 for half an hour, then left at 10:26 before the drop.
- Halt reopens are the thinnest moments. At the 10:32 reopen only 60 shares were offered at the screen price, and a 5,000-share buy would have averaged $1,246 above it.
- After the top, the next push stopped lower. $13.96 at 9:00 a.m., then $12.79 at 9:37 a.m. The stock closed at $7.92, 43% below the high.
