Pre-market and a quiet morning

RDGT closed on August 7 at $0.75. On the 10th, the first trade was at $0.74 at 4:00 a.m. The pre-market low was $0.70 at 4:10 a.m. The pre-market high was $0.77 at 4:40 a.m. 88,541 shares traded before the bell.

It opened at $0.71, down 5% from the previous close. Then not much happened. From 9:30 until 11:48 it stayed between $0.71 and $0.76, and volume was light. The float is 3.51 million shares.

11:49: the move starts

At 11:49 a.m. it cleared the pre-market high of $0.77. By 11:55 it was at $0.99. At 11:59 it traded through $1.00 for the first time, and 434,107 shares changed hands in that one minute. The 12:00 minute went to $1.12 on 584,950 shares.

By 12:05 p.m., more shares had traded than exist in the whole float (3.51 million). The 12:05 minute peaked at $1.21 on 805,979 shares.

The first halt and the drop to $0.83

The turn was fast. At 12:05:09 a single sell order of 56,591 shares went through eight price levels, from $1.21 down to $1.14. By 12:07 it traded at $0.96.

A wall showed up on the way down. At 12:07:51 a large ask appeared at exactly $0.96. It peaked at 145,240 shares at 12:08:05, about 4.1% of the float. At that same second, 12:08:05, the stock was halted (a volatility pause) with the last trade at $0.96. The wall was pulled at 12:10:29, while the stock was still halted.

It resumed at 12:13:05 and fell to $0.83 at 12:13 p.m., 31% under the $1.21 high. A single 53,562-share trade printed at $0.865 at 12:13:05, the second it resumed.

Chop after the first halt

After that low it chopped. From 12:14 to 12:23 it traded between $0.86 and $0.97.

It broke up. The 12:24 minute reached $1.03. By 12:27 it hit $1.17, and by 12:28 it was at $1.20. At 12:28:49 it was halted again with the last trade at $1.20. The halt lasted ten minutes. During it, a bid appeared at $1.30 (first seen 12:29:22). It peaked at 69,865 shares (2.0% of the float) at 12:39:05, after the reopen, and was pulled at 12:40:17.

It reopened at 12:38:49 at $1.45, 21% above where it stopped. A 228,066-share trade printed at $1.45, and one buy order swept 12 levels, from $1.38 to $1.49. The next minute reached $1.61.

At 12:39:44 it was halted for the third time, with the last trade at $1.61. It reopened at 12:44:44 at $1.40, 13% below where it stopped, on a 207,001-share trade. By the end of that minute it was at $1.25.

At 12:44:50 another ask wall appeared at exactly $1.25. It peaked at 167,345 shares at 12:45:04, about 4.8% of the float. At that second the stock was halted a fourth time. It reopened at 12:50:04 around $1.23. The wall was pulled at 12:50:06. In a tenth of a second at 12:50:05, 11,806 shares traded at $1.25.

It fell to $1.22 at 12:50 p.m. and ran back to $1.38 within the same minute. At 12:50:40 it was halted a fifth time.

After the fifth halt

It reopened at 12:55:40 at $1.47, on a 122,778-share trade. The 12:56 minute reached $1.60 on 983,487 shares. At 12:56:50 a 28,000-share trade hit the bid on one exchange, and one buy order swept three levels from $1.54 to $1.56.

The 12:57 minute made $1.62. Then at 12:58 it hit $1.69, the high so far, up 127% from the previous close, on 1,183,251 shares. In that same minute, at 12:58:19, one sell order of 210,999 shares went through 14 price levels, from $1.66 down to $1.53.

It closed the 12:59 minute at $1.58. By 1:00 p.m. it had traded down to $1.41.

After the 12:58 high

At 1:02:55 p.m. it was halted a sixth time, with the last bar at $1.41. At 1:02 an ask wall had appeared at exactly $1.41 and peaked at 104,801 shares (3.0% of the float) at 1:02:54. The stock reopened at 1:07:55 at $1.36, and the wall was pulled one second later. The 1:07 minute low was $1.34, 21% under the high.

It came back once more. At 1:08 p.m. it pushed to $1.48, a lower high under the $1.69 high. Then it slid. At 1:09:47 a sell order of 48,243 shares went through $1.40 to $1.38. At 1:16:37 another, 56,979 shares, went through $1.26 to $1.23.

At 1:20:16 a 66,531-share sell order swept five levels, $1.25 to $1.21. At 1:20:25 a large ask appeared at exactly $1.13. It peaked at 100,049 shares at 1:20:39, about 2.9% of the float. At that same second the stock was halted for the seventh time, with the last trade at $1.13.

It reopened at 1:25:39 at $1.05, below where it stopped, on an 80,850-share trade.

At 1:25:52 19,248 shares traded at $1.13 in under half a second and the wall was gone. Then it fell. The 1:26 minute went to $0.98, and the 1:27 minute closed at $0.9932.

The rest of the day

It traded near $1.00 for the next 20 minutes. At 1:51 p.m. it bounced to $1.18, and at 1:57 p.m. it reached $1.23, a lower high again. From 2 p.m. it mostly traded between about $1.00 and $1.10 on thin volume. At 3:16 p.m. it dropped to $0.96 on 57,689 shares. It closed the regular session at $0.97, about 43% under the high and still 30% above the previous close.

By the close, 24.77 million shares had traded: the float changed hands about 7 times, at 18 times its normal volume, with seven halts. After hours added 391,038 shares.

What to take from it

• A halt can reopen on either side of where it stopped. The 12:28 halt stopped at $1.20 and reopened at $1.45. The 12:39 halt stopped at $1.61 and reopened at $1.40.
• The first seconds after a reopen can cost more than the screen says. At 12:55:41 only 40 shares were offered at the screen price, and 5,000 shares averaged $73 over it.
• After the top, the next push stopped lower, and most of the move was gone by the close. $1.69 at 12:58 p.m., then $1.48 at 1:08 p.m., then $0.97 at the close, 43% below the high.
